Done closer to the end of the school semester. Teacher had us doing something she called a "phantom drawing" where you'd do a gesture and smudge it out, draw it again and smudge again, over and over to get this cloudy background and then go in for details or whatever. I used conte when doing it, and it was quite messy but I was pleased with most of the results. This was the second one I ever did.
The picture's too big for the scanner, and attempting to get multiple scans to edit together results in horribly crumbling and folding the paper. Maybe I'll try again later.
Thanks! Though I can't claim credit for the way she's sitting or my position. Her position was all her, and my position was pure luck, since the whole class had been told to crowd closer and there really wasn't anywhere I could have moved to.
I don't know why it takes me so long to comment, I knew what I was going to say as soon as I saw this picture
This one is absolutely gorgeous. It's much better than any I recall seeing in my life drawing classes at the art school, and I'm pretty sure it's better than (at least most of ) mine. It's just that nice. This one should definitely make you proud

Pfft, at least you get around to the commenting. I totally suck. That's one thing I'll be working on this year: pestering you all with my opinions and feedback. Beware! Ahem.
Is it horrible of me to chalk it all up to luck? I was lucky I sat where I did, that the model posed in such a nice way, that the conte was agreeing with me, etc. I'm sure at least *some* skill musta been in there at some point, but I think it was a very lucky day.
And you're sweet for saying it's better than some of your stuff. I don't believe you at all, but it's sweet.
I still remember one of my life drawing classes where I got the most unlucky seating. I ended up having to draw the fingers straight on and I was throwing fits. The teacher said "Well, you know what you do?" and I said "Yeah, move."
Conte crayons were one of my favorite things to work with in those classes, but I just can't get into it out of the studio environment. Waaaay too messy. And it only works really well on those huge pieces of paper.
But no, you did a great job. I obviously don't know what the model looked like to say you got it dead on, or anything, but you managed completely believable proportions and lighting. It's an excellent picture.
